How to Ensure Your Baby’s Safety during a Newborn Photoshoot: Tips from Professionals

March 24, 2023

Hey there, mama-to-be! As parents of three girls who have been through the newborn photography experience and also as newborn photographers ourselves, we wanted to share some insights on how to prioritize your baby’s safety when choosing a newborn photographer.

First and foremost, always choose a photographer who prioritizes safety above everything else. It is important to ask questions about their experience and training and don’t be afraid to voice any concerns you may have. A good photographer will always listen and address any worries you may have.

During the session, your baby’s safety is of paramount importance. Some poses may look adorable in pictures, but they can be challenging to execute safely. For instance, the Head in Hands Pose or the Chin on Hands Pose require the baby’s head and neck to be properly supported. It is crucial to make sure your photographer is taking the necessary precautions and properly supporting and positioning your baby during the shoot.

One thing to keep in mind is that many of the more complicated poses you may see on social media are actually composite photos. This means that the final image is created by merging two or more images together in post-processing. While these images may look impressive, your baby is never actually in the pose shown in the final photo. It’s important to communicate with the photographer and discuss any concerns you may have about certain poses. You should never feel pressured to agree to anything that makes you uncomfortable.

Lastly, the photographer should take the necessary precautions to ensure that the equipment and props are cleaned and sanitized. It is also important that the photographer is wearing a mask and washing their hands or using hand sanitizer. This will help to prevent the spread of germs and keep your baby safe.

Overall, newborn photography can be a wonderful way to capture those early moments with your little one. Just remember to prioritize safety and choose a photographer who has experience and takes the necessary precautions. Don’t forget to relax and enjoy the session! Your baby is only little for a short time, so savor every moment.
